low-level-glazing safety - CL 100 SRC (100 microns thick) safety window film transforms ordinary glass into safety glass to BS EN 12600 Class 2b standard helping to comply with the requirements of the workplace (health, safety and welfare) regulations 1992 (1996 amendment). The regulation requires employers to ensure glass or glazing within critical locations meets a minimum safety standard when subjected to impact.

Critical locations are defined as: Glass in doors or side panels that begin within 1500mm of finished floor level and, glass in walls or partitions that begin within 800mm of finished floor level.

A risk assessment should be carried out in order to determine that your glazing meets current European standards

manifestation adhered to large expanses of clear glazing making it possible for people to be aware of the presence of glass. Glass manifestation is a requirement of current Building regulations.

The Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992 state that the risks of collision with clear glazing must be avoided by using appropriate markings.

Critical locations include: unframed glazing, glazing that is more than 400mm between frames, glazed doors and windows without mullions, transoms or large handles or large areas of glazing that could appear to be an opening.

Document M of the Building Regulations covering ‘access to and use of buildings’ states that manifestation should be at least 50mm wide and positioned at two levels. The lower level should be between 850mm and 1000mm from finished floor level and the higher from 1400mm and 1600mm

employers are required by law to take reasonable steps to ensure the safety of staff and that of the public

food hygiene glazing that is situated directly within, surrounding or overhead food preparation, processing or manufacturing should be protected by an anti-shatter film CL 100 SRC (100 microns thick) to ensure that shards of shattered glass can not contaminate the food.

overhead glazing - thick films such as CL 175 SRC (175 microns thick) when applied to toughened structural glass, forms a composite multi laminate structure that acts as a fail-safe in the event of catastrophic integrity failure.

When carrying out a risk assessment consideration should also be given to overhead glazing. Falling glass shards can inflict grievous injury and shattered glass in sports halls, swimming pools and play areas can be hazardous.

CL 175 SRC structural glass film can hold toughened glass fragments together once it has shattered as a result of Nickel Sulphide Inclusions or due to impact or shock. Can be applied to toughened glass fitted in atriums, glazed roofs, glazed curtain walling and huge glazed facades. CL 175 SRC has been tested in accordance with BS EN 12600 1B

Fracture can result from impact or from internal stresses caused by Nickel Sulphide inclusions within the glass. Nickel sulphide is an unwanted and unintentional by-product introduced at the time of manufacture and is difficult to detect.
